What a lovely surprise: My Danish Family

Things have been super busy for me as I have prepared for the Dental Admissions Test (which I took yesterday and it was a success!), packed for my volunteer medical brigade to Honduras, and worked on finalizing everything for Denmark! I’m actually at the airport about to fly out to Honduras, spending that oh so lengthy layover posting my most recent and exciting news.
Just a couple days ago, I received an email from my Danish mom, Birgette. She was so excited to describe the family: herself, her husband Jesper, and the kids, Christina and Casper. They sound like such a lovely family, and I am getting antsy to meet them! I can’t wait! They mentioned that they live only about a 15 minute train ride from the center of Copenhagen, so that’ll make traveling to DIS much easier early in the morning. Also, my new sister, Christina, would love to learn how to ride horses, so I’m doing some research on stables/farms in the area to take her to. Both my new siblings play sports as well, so I will soon be that proud older sister cheering her little brother and sister on at the handball tournaments. I emailed them back right away to express my excitement to spend a semester with them. It’s all about being comfortable with each other, and honest, open communication is key in that.
But today marks the TEN DAY COUNTDOWN! Updates from my last post:
– I registered for the sailing adventure trip in late September! I’ve had my eye on that one…I’ve always wanted to learn how to sail on a legit sail boat. Plus, it’ll probably be the closest I’ll get to my childhood dream of stowing away on an adventurous, maybe pirate ship as that girl disguised as a crew boy (for those of you who have read the Bloody Jack series, you know that’d be exciting).
– My host family has a bike that might suit me, so I don’t have to worry about renting one unless it’s too small or too large! If I do need to rent one, however, it should be easy to do once I’m in Denmark.
– I’ve been doing a lot of shopping on eBay for those European travel essentials that I didn’t happen to have on hand…and eBay shopping is surprisingly addicting! Got my leather boots, a nice jacket that can be worn over layers of sweaters and scarves, some new pants, and a semi-large purse/bag for toting around my camera and such while exploring Copenhagen.
– I applied to be an official DIS blogger, so who knows, maybe that’ll work out too! If not, keep on the look out because I’ll still post my adventures!

I still have a lot of packing to do…I need to lay everything out and figure what really NEEDS to come with me and what doesn’t. That will be my task next week when I return from Honduras, and I’ll tell you all about it 🙂
